I think since I didn’t play the last of us 1 until right before the second one came out I liked it more. Maybe because I wasn’t as attached to Joel and Ellie so I could care for Abby just as much

People claim Dina to be a lovable character, but imo she is not. She is soooo fucking clingy, too much emotionally dependant, as if she really wants that pussy. She felt like a worthless love interest. Her character arc was not handled well. But thats just my opinion.

Had to comment, just finished the game yesterday and while just before the fight I kind of realized I gave a crap about Abby, but I let Ellie kill her by just standing there also. Of course she got me a couple more times before it was over.

Opinion time baby, just because I haven’t heard mine shared. I find myself at an opposing point of view to Jeremy, as when I played as Ellie during the epilogue fight with Abby, I repeatedly said out loud “no, don’t do it” and did the same thing as Jeremy during his fight with Ellie except I was not wanting to attack Abby. It seems that many people are latching onto the fact that they didn’t enjoy the games direction with the story, and it has come at the expense of reviewers failing to adequately review, what I personally describe at incredible world building, atmosphere and characters. Not to mention some of the most immersive stealth/combat with some thrilling set pieces. I understand that the game’s story landed a lot better for me as I very quickly took a likening to Abby’s character and motivations. I felt Joel’s death, while brutal, was relatively justified and I found Ellie’s revenge story to be equally as justified and engaging, to a point. I began to feel uneasy about Ellie’s actions but was enthusiastic about killing Abby. However, I really enjoyed Abby as a complex character, found her redemption story to be engaging and found her to be an absolute badass. When she is finally prompted to show mercy by Lev to release Dina, I was relieved and celebrated an ending where both parties are able to move on. I do agree that beyond that point in the story, I found Ellie and Tommy’s actions to be misguided and selfish, considering Abby left her to live despite losing so much. Although I did find Ellie’s PTSD to be a compelling reason to leave Dina. I found Ellie’s ending to be somewhat hollow, however I felt as if the cost of her fingers and home were justified as she abandoned her family for the wrong reasons. I do believe Jeremy isn’t treating the ending fairly when he says it is just depressing, because Ellie finally has the same opportunity for growth as Abby, to show mercy to someone who has wronged her and realise revenge will not solve anything. In this moment, she remembers Joel not as he was dying, but seeing him on the porch and remembering her wish to try to forgive him. She’s shifts from wanting vain revenge to working on making her peace with Joel. I feel as if this is a good ending for a character who lives in a dark and tortured world.

I agree with virtually everything u said. felt torn in both fights. I didn't want to hurt/kill Ellie then vice versa at the end. I initially did not like playing as Abby especially the 2nd time at such a pivotal moment. All the air was let out of the balloon, so to speak, but over time, it re-inflated for me. I really dug Abby after a while then the whole side situation with Lev and his sister really sealed it. I think what u and I picked up on mentally and emotionally is what ND was going for.

Halfway through the video rn but I do agree with most everything he says. And still, TLOU P2 is my favorite game of all time. Of course I know the game was flawed. Of course there’s things they could’ve done to make it better. Even with all the imperfections in the game it still rests as one of the greatest games along with TLOU.

i am fine with Joel dying, i just felt that he died too early in the game. there were some scenes i find it just impossible to understand, the part where abby let ellie go the 2nd time when she already knew most of her friends died by Ellie's hand.....just because the last airbender told her not to..........

I wish they would've let us play as Abby first, keep her involvement with Joel a mystery and then end her part with killing Joel. Then play as Ellie. Also, they could've made the Scars a lot more badass and different than the WLF. Should've treated them like stalkers where you can't detect them.

Because the kid who convinced Abby to spare Dina and Ellie, is in the boat near them. Killing Abby and dooming him to die would just solidify her monstrous identity. She's gotta stop killing at some point or lose herself completely, so she spared Abby to save Lev. A much more innocent life.

Here's an observation that I missed during my playthrough. Somewhere in the game they allude that Abby has been working on her body for years, so that she could one day be strong enough to fight Joel Miller. I think thats an important piece of info that was totally lost on me. When I played as Abby, I just assumed that she was jacked because there's nothing else to do in the apocalypse except work out. But no, I was wrong, her body is in fact a weapon that she has been sharpening for years in order to exact revenge. Its her obsession.

I loved the ending of this game. I think it had to end in a horrible way for Ellie because what else can you expect to happen to someone who is driven by hate, revenge and obsession- obsession with giving her own life meaning, avenging her father essentially. Abby was on the same journey as Ellie just at the beginning of the game, and she realized that hate can’t be the way after killing Joel, she gets redemption. I mean still, fuck her cause she killed Joel but at least she made it to Catalina island

If the 3rd Last of us ever comes out, which at this point I don´t even want to happen, it´d be great if they finally make Ellie understand Joel and why he did that. Just don´t make it so that she already understands him at the start and then do the flashbacks.

Guys like yourself, with your copy/paste “BRUH, THE GAME IS TRASH BRUH, BAD WRITING BRUH ITS TRAAAAASH BRUH, LOLOL MA’AM GOLF JOKES” are trash... it’s a shame we share a common enjoyment of anything, if I could separate myself from both of you I would. Or is she gonna track down Dina and JJ? Also since Abby and Lev are alive what’s gonna be going on with them??? Where did they end up going??? Another question that needs answering is WHERE DID DINA AND JJ GO???? Once I beat this game the second time I’m thinking to myself “I’m already ready for part 3” lol

I legitimately loved this game and was sold start to finish until Tommy comes and convinces Ellie to go to SB. When Ellie is sitting on the tractor with JJ and looking at the sunset, if that scene was just like one minute uncut and then cut to black, then fade into the Joel/Ellie porch scene, absolutely i'd put it in the first game pantheon. The second I was in Santa Barbara I was so over it.

haha yeah i'd say you're old testiment-ey. That was the point of the game. Story was(and hopefully will be since 3 is coming out) amazing!!! where the story falls flat is on the consumer and not the creators. They took the blissfulness of the "out of sight out of mind" reality for most and said fuck no! you're going to see the full thing and walk in the other shoe! can't chalk it up to heroes being heroes and villains being villains. In the end(kinda....lou3) ellie chose correctly, and broke free of the cycle. Now she did lose(kinda, cause 3 is coming out) her loved ones, but only for the moment.

Your pitch for what « The Last of Us 2 » should have been is why I’m glad they took 7 years to make it. Because your pitch is too simple and too expected. Fiction is not about pleasing your audience, fiction is about saying something to your audience. Making you feel uncomfortable by playing Joël’s murderer is the whole bias of this game. Because the story is about right and wrong and the consequences of Joël’s fireflies’genocide. There is no future for this duo from the moment she knew Joël did what he did. This révélation didn’t need more than a (well written) flashback... If you wanna play Joël and Elly... just play LOU 1 man...

I don’t mind the ending being depressing, not the way Joel died and the nature of Abby’s role in it. The point of this game more than the first is exploring the complex nature of this world. It’s brutal, where our favourite characters can die instantly, with little or no immediate repercussions. I also admire that it showed Ellie’s sacrifice, leaving Dina and the farm, seemed like what she wanted, but much like life, what she truly wanted or needed, was staring at her in the face. Peace. I enjoyed playing as Abby, maybe not for the 10 hours in a row, as I felt it made you lose track of the bigger picture, but it made me understand and enjoy the world more, which maybe is the right sacrifice to make. Opening up the different avenues in the world, over going down the same path with Ellie.

  58. Sara Fruhling

Abby let Ellie go TWICE. She cared for Lev the way Joel cared for Ellie and she mourned her father's death the same way Ellie did Joel's, so if Ellie is justified in her vengeance, so is she. Abby is a good person, y'all are just immature. Maybe the writers should've held back on the nuance cuz gamers are big babies with child level empathy. Grow up.
